how to create a tabs in salesforce

What is Tab:
Tab is nothing but interaction between user and Object. Using the tabs we can access the data in object. without tab we can't access object data. In salesforce tabs are divided in to 3 types.
1. Custom object Tab
2. Web tab
3. Visualforce Tab

Custom Object Tab:
This tab is used for accessing custom objects in salesforce.
Now i will show how to create a tab in simple steps.
1. Enter the UserName and Password to enter your salesforce account.
2. Than select Setup-->app setup-->Create-->Tabs.

3. Then select your object and Click on tab Style to choose a tab stem form it. You don't like this style you can create your own style.

4. Tab style popup window upper middle one button is there called create your own style. Then select color and i con to create your own style.

5. Splash Page Custom Link: This is optional field.Choose a Home Page Custom Link to show as a splash page the first time your users click on this tab.

6. Description this is also optional field you can enter or leave it.

7. Add to profile is Choose the user profiles for which the new custom tab will be available. You may also examine or alter the visibility of tabs from the detail and edit pages of each profile.

8. Add to Custom Apps:Choose the custom apps for which the new custom tab will be available. You may also examine or alter the visibility of tabs from the detail and edit pages of each Custom App.

9. The finally click on save to finish custom object tab.

Web Tab:

Web Tabs are custom tabs that display web content or applications embedded in the salesforce.com window. Web tabs make it easier for your users to quickly access content and applications they frequently use without leaving the salesforce.com application.

For example, you can create Web Tabs for the following:
• Expense reporting
• Travel management
• Company intranet pages
• Salesforce.com partner solutions
• Email

Now i will show how to create a tab in simple steps.

1.Select Setup-->app setup-->Create-->Tabs.

2. Scroll down to find Web tabs.In the web tab section click on new.

3. Then Select the page layout of the web tab you wish to create.Click on next.

4. Select how the tab Type url or custom s-objects.then enter the tab label,tab name,tab style and window size.

5. Enter the web page address in the Link URL field. You can enter a simple URL just as it appears in the browser address bar.

6. Add to profile is Choose the user profiles for which the new custom tab will be available. You may also examine or alter the visibility of tabs from the detail and edit pages of each profile.

7. Add to Custom Apps:Choose the custom apps for which the new custom tab will be available. You may also examine or alter the visibility of tabs from the detail and edit pages of each Custom App.

8. The finally click on save to finish Web tab.

Visualforce Tab:

Visualforce Tabs are used to display a Visualforce page. Visualforce tabs look and behave like standard salesforce.com tabs such as accounts, contacts, and opportunities.
To create a Visualforce tab, select an existing Visualforce page or create a new one.

2. Scroll down to find Visualforce tabs.On the visualforce tab section click on new.

3. Then Select the page you wish to create.and fill the label,tab name and tab style.Click on next.

5. Add to Custom Apps:Choose the custom apps for which the new custom tab will be available. You may also examine or alter the visibility of tabs from the detail and edit pages of each Custom App.
